BETTER MENTAL HEALTH FOR ALL
About
Reach Out Together
Creating a world where people can openly discuss mental health and access the support they need.
Our Story
Reach Out Together was founded by Aanchal Vash in memory of her twin brother, Tushar, who passed by suicide on July 12, 2016. This profound loss inspired Aanchal to create an organization dedicated to mental health advocacy, focusing on eliminating stigma and encouraging open conversations about mental wellness.
What began as a personal mission has grown into an organization with global impact, hosting annual events like World Reach Out Together Day (July 12), providing Mental Health First Aid training, and developing resources for communities across Canada.
Our Logo
Our logo represents two hands coming together in American Sign Language, symbolizing "together." This visual reminder of human connection is at the core of our mission.
We chose the color orange because it's associated with healing therapy, bringing out feelings of warmth and happiness. Orange represents enthusiasm, creativity, and encouragement - all qualities we embody in our approach to mental health advocacy.
The circular shape represents wholeness and unity, reflecting our belief that when we reach out together, we can create a complete support system for those in need.
Why "Together" Matters
The Science of Connection
Human connection isn't just nice to have—it's essential for our mental and physical wellbeing. Research has consistently shown that social isolation is as harmful to our health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, while strong social connections can add years to our lives:
People with strong social ties have a 50% increased chance of longevitycompared to those with weak social connections (Harvard Health Study, 2021).
Social isolation increases the risk of depression by 64% and anxiety disorders by 45% (Journal of Clinical Psychology, 2020).
Blue Zones (areas where people regularly live past 100) all share strong community connections and social integration as key factors.
Regular meaningful social interaction can reduce cognitive decline by up to 70%(American Journal of Public Health, 2022).
The Culture of Isolation
Modern life has created unprecedented levels of isolation. Digital connection often replaces in-person interaction, while individualistic values can overshadow community belonging:
In Canada, 1 in 4 people report feeling lonely "most of the time" (Statistics Canada, 2023).
Young adults (18-29) are the loneliest age group despite being the most connected via technology (Canadian Mental Health Association).
People living in communities with strong social bonds report 30% higher life satisfaction and fewer mental health issues (World Happiness Report, 2023).
"The happiest countries in the world—Finland, Denmark, Iceland—all share common values: community support, mutual trust, and prioritizing connection over individual success."
Healing Through Togetherness
At Reach Out Together, we believe that healing happens in community. When we share our stories, listen with compassion, and walk alongside each other, we create the conditions for recovery and growth. This is why the "together" in our name isn't just a word—it's our core philosophy.
“Isolation can breed despair—but togetherness can spark hope.”
